Historical-political education working group: memorial site trip, nature conservation and exchange on formats
One focus of the meeting was a project input on a memorial site trip to Auschwitz under the heading "Auschwitz and the brown side of nature conservation". The contribution made it clear how historical and political education can open up specific thematic approaches and combine well-known historical sites with new content-related perspectives. It became clear that trips to memorial sites are not only places of remembrance, but also spaces to explore ideological continuities, social interpretations and previously neglected topics in greater depth.
Another focus was the exchange of ideas in smaller discussion groups. These focussed on practical experiences, questions about methodological design and ideas for the further development of own formats. Once again, it became clear how important collegial networking and cross-structural dialogue are in order to further develop projects, learn from each other and take away new approaches for historical-political educational work.
The subsequent exchange on current issues and needs focussed in particular on formats and methods, possible expert discussions and workshops. The question of a future focus on memorial tours was also addressed. This made it clear that the working group is still very interested in jointly reflecting on specific practical issues and providing in-depth thematic impetus for further work.
The working group thus once again made clear how important continuous exchange spaces are for historical-political education in youth organisations and youth rings. It provided an opportunity to visualise projects, get to know new perspectives and develop joint topics for further networking.
About the Political Youth Education Centre and its formats, networking, knowledge transfer and professional and collegial exchange in the field of political youth education in youth association work on projects, questions and ideas of the participants are bundled. The formats are open to all interested and active participants from the member organisations of the German Federal Youth Council who wish to exchange ideas and participate in the topics of political education and democracy education.
