Discussions with MEPs in Brussels

The European Youth Policy Working Group and the International Youth Policy Working Group of the Bundesjugendring will be holding a joint meeting in Brussels from 22 to 25 June 2026.

The working group meeting in Brussels also includes discussions with Members of the European Parliament. The working groups bring the perspectives of young people and youth organisations to current European debates.

On Tuesday, the participants spoke with Daniel Freund (MEP, Alliance 90/The Greens, The Greens/EFA), Birgit Sippel (MEP, SPD, S&D) and Dr Andrea Wechsler (MEP, CDU, EPP), focusing on the promotion of democracy and the pressures facing young civil society. The focus was on how to protect spaces for civil society in Europe and strengthen democratic structures.

On Wednesday, discussions followed with the office of Sabrina Repp (MEP, SPD, S&D), with Sabine Verheyen (MEP, CDU, EPP), Vice-President of the European Parliament, and with Martin Schirdewan (MEP, Die Linke, GUE/NGL). The discussions centred on the EU Youth Strategy, Erasmus+ and the importance of European funding and participation programmes for youth organisations and youth federations.
