Bundesjugendring criticises the looming end of the KulturPass for young people

The de facto end of the KulturPass deprives young people of opportunities for participation and development in the field of cultural education. The Bundesjugendring is in favour of the KulturPass being relaunched and further developed. The KulturPass should not only see young people as consumers, but should actively involve them in cultural processes and, in particular, strengthen non-profit, education-oriented programmes.

Youth associations not only organise cultural activities for young people, but are themselves part of youth culture in Germany. For this reason, and because young people should always have a say in the reality of their lives in accordance with Section 8 SGB VIII, young people from youth associations must also be involved in the design of the KulturPass and the offers eligible for funding through it. The Bundesjugendring emphasises that long-term structural support for the landscape of cultural youth education, as it also takes place in youth associations, must always remain the starting point of a good youth policy and that offers such as the KulturPass can have a complementary effect if necessary.
