On 21 February 2026, representatives of the Coordination Office for Youth Participation in Climate Issues attended the Engagement Forum 2026 organised by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) and the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) in Berlin. Together with young people and stakeholders from youth organisations and open youth work, they discussed how youth involvement in environmental and sustainability issues can be strengthened.

The Engagement Forum was entitled "Unheard? Unseen? Undedicated? - Strengthening youth engagement for sustainability together". It brought together around 100 participants from various areas of engagement to present the results of the research project "Strengthening youth engagement for sustainability through dialogue and transformative learning" (JuNast) and to discuss how young people can be better reached, heard and involved.

The event provided a space for dialogue with other committed individuals, practical perspectives and the opportunity to discuss concrete ideas for increasing the participation of young people. A lively fishbowl discussion in the afternoon focussed on ways and approaches for young people to get them excited about sustainability and make their voices heard.

The Engagement Forum showed once again how important it is to create spaces for young perspectives and to talk together about new approaches to meaningful engagement.
