Youth delegates discuss their experiences and expectations regarding the HLPF at the Parliamentary Advisory Council

On 8 July 2026, the youth delegates for sustainable development, Matilda Ramge and Florian Brod, were invited – together with former youth delegate Audrey MacLean – to a public expert discussion organised by the Parliamentary Advisory Council on Sustainable Development and Future Issues. Via video link, they spoke about their experiences at previous High-level Political Forums on Sustainable Development (HLPF) and outlined their expectations for this year’s HLPF in New York.

The discussion focused on the increasing pressure on international civil society, the growing conflicts over climate and gender justice, and the crumbling multilateral consensus on the 2030 Agenda. The youth delegates emphasised that Germany must continue to act as a reliable voice for multilateralism, protect spaces for civil society, and consistently drive forward the implementation of all the Sustainable Development Goals. Matilda referred in particular to the need for course correction regarding the Sustainable Development Goals on sustainable consumption and production, climate action, poverty reduction and equal opportunities.
