Youth organisations present position paper on youth-friendly mobility

Following an exchange with Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder, several youth organisations have published a joint position paper on youth-friendly mobility. The paper summarises key perspectives of young people and is aimed at transport policy at federal level.

The demands paper is the result of a meeting between youth organisations and the Federal Minister of Transport in December. The exchange took place as part of a participation format organised by the Youth Participation Office of the German Federal Youth Council together with the Federal Ministry of Transport. The aim was to enter into a dialogue with federal politicians on young people's perspectives on mobility.

The participating youth organisations have written down their concerns from the discussion in the paper. Firstly, it categorises mobility as a central prerequisite for social participation, self-determined lifestyles and the future viability of young people. Building on this, it describes the specific needs of young people, including safety, infrastructure, public spaces and the situation in rural regions.

Another focus is on overarching fields of action for a youth-orientated mobility policy. These are bundled along central transport areas and placed in a larger transport and climate policy context. The paper also addresses youth participation as a structural element of transport policy and emphasises the role of youth associations as representatives of young people's organised interests.

The demands paper was signed by individual youth associations and builds on the dialogue that has already begun with the Federal Ministry of Transport. It is intended to serve as a basis for further discussions and participation formats.
