Young voices for democracy: EU Youth Dialogue brings together young people from Germany and Denmark
DBJR
The event is part of the EU Youth Dialogue and Denmark's Presidency Programme in the Council of the European Union. Around 100 young activists from youth associations, organisations and democratic youth parties from both countries came together in Berlin to exchange experiences, learn from each other and develop joint recommendations for strong youth participation in Europe.
After welcoming words by Barbara Gessler, Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Berlin, the EU youth representatives Eva-Marie Deckers and Emma Klint Hansen from Germany and Denmark framed the event by presenting the results of the national surveys of the EU Youth Dialogue. The participants then delved deeper into the topics in several workshops, in which they developed proposals on how to strengthen youth participation in the EU.
The final declaration drawn up by the young people in the workshops can be found here.
In the concluding panel discussion, Moritz Tapp (DBJR) moderated a discussion that focussed on what Denmark and Germany can learn from each other in terms of youth participation and how real youth participation can be implemented at various political levels.
The evening ended with a joint dinner and get-together, where the discussions could be continued in an informal atmosphere.
The event shows: Youth participation is a central component of living democracy - in Germany, in Denmark and in Europe.
