Marta Markowska is the new EU Youth Co-ordinator

Her responsibilities include supporting the Youth Check process and ensuring that young people’s perspectives are more firmly embedded in all relevant policy areas, such as employment, education, health, climate, democracy and culture. She is also tasked with promoting dialogue between the Commission’s departments responsible for youth issues.

As a visible point of contact for young people, youth organisations and youth civil society, Marta Markowska will also gather concerns, feedback and demands from the youth sector and pass them on within the Commission. At the same time, she will help to raise the profile of EU initiatives and opportunities for young people to get involved.

Marta Markowska is of Polish-Canadian origin and has been working at the European Commission for almost 20 years. She began as a Blue Book trainee in 2006 and has since worked in various areas of the Commission, including policy, human resources and communications. Most recently, she headed the Digital Education Outreach and Empowerment team at the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture for more than five years. She succeeds Biliana Sirakova, who served as the EU Youth Coordinator from June 2021 to November 2025.
