New Youth Delegate for Sustainable Development

Together with the Federal Environment Ministry, we have selected Sophia Bachmann as the new Youth Delegate for Sustainable Development. Her term of office began on 1 December 2019.

Sophia Bachmann succeeds Rebecca Freitag and, together with Felix Kaminski, forms the duo of youth delegates. They accompany the German government delegation led by the Ministry of the Environment to the UN High Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development (HLPF). There, the youth delegates represent the interests of young people from Germany. In December, the two will go into seclusion and concretise the annual plan for 2020. In spring, participation in the ECOSOC Youthforum in New York is on the agenda, and the HLPF at the end of July 2020.

Sophia Bachmann is 22 years old and has her associational roots in the German Scout Association Sankt Georg and the Nature Friends Youth. She lives in Erfurt and is active locally for the Naturefriends Youth, in particular as a trainer for the Special Unit for Radicalization Prevention and Engagement in Nature Conservation. Sophia studies Social and Economic Sciences at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Erfurt, specialising in International Relations and Empirical Social Research. Against this background, Sophia will be particularly involved in the field of education for sustainable development, anti-fascism and gender justice. She will hold this office until 2021.

The youth delegates will publish further information and current reports on their blog.
