Our start to the year: the introductory week in Berlin

Kevin Fuchs

Six days, lots of exciting discussions and impressions as well as a shared look ahead - we, Florian and Matilda, the youth delegates for sustainable development, started the new year together in Berlin (with lots of ideas in our luggage) with the annual familiarisation week.

The week started with our visit to the Green Week, where Florian was represented on a panel of the Office of Youth & Women of the FAO (Food & Agriculture Organisation). There, he presented the perspectives of young people and his experiences of youth participation on the topic of "Young people shaping agricultural and food systems: perspectives from politics, science, culture and local action".

The following days were filled with exciting dialogue, various stakeholder discussions and strategy meetings at the DBJR and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, where we looked ahead to the coming year together. In addition to planning the HLPF (High-Level Political Forum), we held initial discussions on this year's focus SDGs (SDG 6, 7, 9 & 11) and on possible approaches and ideas for action. A photo shoot in front of the Bundestag was also part of the introductory week and was mastered well despite the sub-zero temperatures. We rounded off the week with another visit to the Green Week, where we were able to gather many exciting impressions about agriculture and food in Germany and around the world.

We are now starting the new year with plenty of inspiration and ideas and are looking forward to helping shape the implementation of the sustainability goals in Germany as a new duo!
