Workshop with trainees at the district administration office: thinking about global goals from a local perspective

Florian gave an insight into the youth delegate programme and the 2030 Agenda during a 2.5-hour workshop at the Heilbronn District Office on 17 March 2026. The dialogue with 22 trainees made it clear how closely global issues and local administrative practice are linked. The focus was on the SDGs and specific points of reference for everyday working life.

The participants are currently completing their training as administrative assistants or are preparing for the intermediate civil service. The workshop offered them the opportunity to get to know the youth delegate programme and to engage with the 2030 Agenda. In addition to an overview of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there was a particular focus on SDG 11, which centres on sustainable cities and communities - and therefore a topic that is directly relevant to work in local government.

The role that local authorities play in the implementation of global sustainability goals was worked out together. Using examples and discussions, the trainees were able to reflect on how the content of the workshop can be transferred to their future work at the district office. In particular, the focus was on understanding sustainable development as a cross-cutting task in administrative action.

The workshop showed that the 2030 Agenda is not just an abstract political endeavour, but also offers concrete points of reference for day-to-day work in local government. This is a particular opportunity for young professionals to help shape the local administration.
