Exchange with Chair of the Committee for Sport and Volunteering Aydan Özoğuz
DBJR
Broda and Bloemacher emphasised that young people continue to have the highest engagement rates of all age groups and therefore make a key contribution to democratic resilience. At the same time, they emphasised that young engagement is coming under increasing pressure - particularly from attacks by right-wing and far-right actors. There was agreement that young volunteers and their organisations must be effectively protected from such attacks. The Bundesjugendring contributed its many years of expertise as an umbrella organisation for youth associations.
Another focus of the discussion was the bureaucratic hurdles that make it difficult for young volunteers to get involved. Broda and Bloemacher referred to the DBJR's demands to reduce bureaucracy, including the further development of Section 72a SGB VIII through a digital retrieval procedure in the Federal Central Criminal Register.
The discussion took place in a very constructive atmosphere and created a good basis for more in-depth cooperation - in the interests of the many young people who work for democracy and cohesion in youth organisations every day.
