The Albanian capital Tirana receives the title "European Youth Capital 2022". The German Federal Youth Council was invited to the opening event.

Since 2009, the European Youth Capital (EYC) award has been presented to a European city on the initiative of the European Youth Forum. During the period of one year, the respective youth capital can present itself with a diverse youth program with the participation of youth organizations and youth institutions.

Besides the city of Tirana, the Albanian National Youth Congress is the host of "Tirana EYC 2022". The National Youth Congress, an umbrella organization of more than 120 youth organizations, informal groups, youth forums and political youth organizations, has been a close partner of the German Federal Youth Ring for many years. Both youth associations are linked by close cooperation, which is to be further intensified in the context of the Youth Capital.

Raoul Taschinski, board member of the German Federal Youth Council, was present at the festive opening event in Tirana. He emphasizes: "The Year is a good opportunity to focus on the diverse work of youth structures and the concerns of young people not only in Albania but in the entire Western Balkan region. This can strengthen the participation of young people and promote the strengthening of European identity."

Tirana EYC 2022 will implement more than 1000 projects by the end of the year with numerous initiatives and activities at national, regional and European levels. The program aims to empower youth by creating new opportunities, promoting European values and a youth-inclusive perspective in all aspects of city life.
